Tehran, Thessaloniki book fairs begin joint projects

IBNA-The economic attaché of Greece Embassy in Tehran Nikolaos Doukas announced the beginning of cooperation between Tehran Book Fair and Thessaloniki Book Fair from his country. 

According to IBNA correspondent, the Greek Cultural Institute has participated at the 31st Tehran International Book Fair through its embassy in Iran and has put the books of the celebrated Greek literati in two languages of Greek and Persian on public display at its stand.

Doukas pointed out that he has been surprised by the massive welcome of the Iranian visitors of the works by the Greek writers such as Nikos Kazantzakis, Odysseus Elytis and George Seferis.

“The Iranian visitors are also interested in the classical literary masterpieces of ancient Greece such as ‘Iliad’ and ‘Odyssey’ by Homer,” he said. 

"We decided to participate at the last moment, but we are delighted to be here at Tehran Book Fair for the first time, and we will definitely follow this cooperation," he added. 

The Greek Cultural Institute is a governmental organization directly supervised by the Ministry of Culture and Arts of that country. The organization aims to establish cultural ties with other countries and introduce the culture and literature of Greece to people in the other parts of the world.  

It should be noted that the 15th Thessaloniki International Book Fair (TBF) is currently underway in the second major city of Greece. It kicked off on May 3 and will run until May 6 at the International Exhibition Centre of Thessaloniki (TIF-Helexpo). 

It is organized by the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in collaboration with TIF-HELEXPO, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, associations of Greek publishers as well as independent publishers. It is supported by the Hellenic Parliament and is under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
