On the occasion of Italy’s participation in the 30th Tehran International Book Fair as the guest of honor, a meeting on the contemporary Italian Literature was held on Sunday, Mar 5, 2017 in the conference hall of Iran’s Cultural Fairs Institute.

The event was attended by Reza Qeisarieh and Nadia Mo’aveni (faculty members of the Islamic Azad University, North Tehran Branch), Anna Maria Motacchi, Pasquina Nadia Marazzi, Clara Corona (Italian professors invited through Italy’s Embassy) as well as the students of Italian language.

In the beginning of the event, Nadia Mo’aveni (a faculty member of the Islamic Azad University) pointed out to the contemporary Italian poets and writers who are less known to the Iranian people. She said, “Such meetings help more students and translators get familiar with the works of these writers.”

She added, “Italy’s participation in the 30th Tehran International Book Fair as the guest of honor is a good opportunity for the students and translators to be notified of the most recent works from Italy and meet some of literary figures from Italy.”

Pointing to the literature, theater and cinema of Italy, Reza Qeisarieh said, “Between the First and Second World War, tendency to literature, theater and cinema increased. The critics called this period neorealism.” Then he discussed this period in more details.

Then Anna Maria Motacchi talked about the rules in the Italian Literature. She also read parts of Italian poems and prose to the audiences.

Clara Corona mentioned the so-called “zero years” in the Italian literature. She said, “It became common during the first half of 2000s and gradually established as it was used by the writers and critics.”

Pasquina Nadia Marazzi talked about the story collection Fists by Pietro Grossi who has won important European literary awards including the Premio Campiello. She said, “It is a collection of ordinary lives of young people. The protagonists of the story deal with events that make them grow up and know their identities. In the course of these stories, the simplicity of childhood is replaced by the complexity of adulthood life. And it is all narrated with a special style that makes its reading a pleasure.”
