Legions of titles published in 2011 are up for grab in the 24th edition of Tehran International Book Fair, showing a surge in the number of current year editions year on year, the book fair's press office quoted TIBF Chief Executive, Bahman Dorri as saying Wednesday.

The 24th edition of the landmark event has run abreast of time thanks to close cooperation between the fair's organizers and universities nationwide.

"Three months before the fair opens, we consulted in writing with chancellors of major universities nationwide, asking them to provide us with a list of much needed titles. We subsequently delivered such lists to publishers of Arabic and Latin books," Dorri told the press office, elaborating on how the 24th edition got the striking feature.

The chief executive then touched on a decision by the book fair's policy committee not to qualify any foreign-currency-sales title with an edition date earlier than 2010 and any rial-sales title with an edition date earlier than 2009, in a bid to enhance the quality of contents on show in the international section of the book fair.

The chief executive said the international section was accorded a strong welcome, adding that several foreign guests had told him they had purchases some titles in the international section which had yet to hit the stalls in their own countries.

Staged outdoor on the courtyard of Imam Khomeini Mosalla (grand mosque), the venue of the book fair, the international section of the 24th book fair has hosted publishers of some 40 countries.
