Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance has reached a Memorandum of Understanding with governors general of several provinces across the country to stage small scale book shows in the provinces, deputy minister in cultural affairs said Wednesday.

Bahman Dorri, also chief executive of the 24th edition of Tehran International Book Fair, made the remarks in a meeting with Sayyed Ja'far Hejazi, governor general of Khuzestan province, the book fair's press office reported.

The small scale book shows have been titled "memory of affectionate companion," an epithet for books in general, taken from a like-named poem in praise of books and book reading aptitude in the Iranian elementary school textbooks.

The deputy minister in cultural affairs said a major solution to enhance national per capita time spent on book reading was to expand school libraries. He supported his argument by quoting a statement by the IR Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei that programs to enhance book reading aptitude could be more effective when they are carried out at earlier ages.

Khuzestan's governor general for his part welcomed Dorri's offer and said the province was ready to host an edition of the "memory of affectionate companion" fair.

Hurmuzgan province, south of Iran, has been the only province yet which has hosted an edition of the small scale fairs.
