Some 1979 individual publishers without links to state or NGO bodies have applied for the 24th Tehran International Book Fair, according to Ahmad Kamalinejad, deputy of committee in charge of domestic publishers.

Kamalinejad said 1549 such individual publishers have qualified for the cultural events and the rest of applications are under study.

He said the number of domestic publishers at hand in the book fair might grow in light of newer publications on stalls and a re-review of titles suggested by publishers for the book fair.

As for the number of publishers in various show categories, the deputy said about 800 publishers would set up their pavilions in the hall of general subjects while the number of pavilions for publishers of academic titles was 415. The deputy put the number of pavilions allocated to children titles and educational titles at 219 and 115 respectively.

He put the total number of titles on offer in the 24th book fair at 185,087, adding that the number is set to grow.

The 24th book fair would open to public on May 4 and would run for 10 days. The show halls are set up inside the compound of Imam Khomeini Mosalla (grand mosque), north of Tehran.
