The 1979 Islamic Revolution and the Sacred Defense (1980-88) dominates the verbal history of the Iranian nation, a renowned Iranian author told panel discussion in the 25th Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF), adding that the verbal history had ample potentials in carrying of such revolutionary or wartime values.

Mohsen Kazemi, an Iranian author and researcher in Iran’s contemporary history was speaking to the ‘verbal history of sacrifice and martyrdom’ panel discussion held on Tuesday evening, according to Iran Book News Agency (IBNA).

Held in a hall called ‘Yas’ in Imam Khomeini Mosalla (grand mosque) north of Tehran, the venue of the book fair, the panel discussion was also attended by Hojjat ol-Islam Saeed Fakhrzada, director of verbal history department at IRI ‘Office of Islamic Revolution Literature’ and Amir Razaqzada, moderator of the event.

Mr. Kazemi presented a brief history of world’s verbal history, saying that verbal history took form following the World War II, half a century ago while it has just started to flourish. The author-researcher called verbal history a favorable means for shedding light on different aspects of the revolution and war and transfer revolutionary values to the posterity.

Mr. Fakhrzada for his part said the incidents and developments of the 1979 Islamic have turned into a source of honor for the Iranians and, at the same time, provides other Muslim countries with a fine political model.

The cultural official termed verbal history a favorable means for having different historical events recorded in more details, adding that verbal history can help assess the people’s behavior in social and political developments and sheds light on the depths of society and human mind.

Mr. Fakhrzada said verbal history as a means of recording history enjoyed several privileges: People are more interested in hearing about historical memoirs than reading them in written texts. AT the same time, they are more reliable as researchers can find an opportunity to verify the remarks of their interviewees, although, to meet the goal, researchers are required to dominate the subject of interview.
