
Rouhani: We should make books more easily available

IBNA- In the opening ceremony of the 28th Tehran International Book Fair, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani pointed to the role of the government in facilitating citizens’ access to books and stressed on making reasonable strategies to make this possible.
According to IBNA correspondent, in the opening ceremony of the 28th Tehran International Book Fair, Hojjat ul-Eslam Rohani said: “We are proud of the fact that in the 28th Tehran International Book Fair, 330,000 book titles in the domestic section and 180,000 in the foreign section are offered. Presence of thousands of domestic and international publishers in the fair is of great value; however, bookshops must increase at the same rate as well.”
The President also expressed: “For books to reach the public, the government has a sense of duty with regard to related hardware; however, principles like respect for religious and cultural framework of the national security and observing the Islamic and national identity must be taken into consideration.”
Referring to the status of books in Iranian culture, he said: “It is no exaggeration if I say our Islamic and Iranian culture is preserved in masterpieces such as Shahnameh, Boustan,Golestan, Masnavi-ye Ma`navi and the Collecte Poems (Divan) of Hafez.”
