Hafiz, Khayyam left impact on Mexican literature

A Mexican publisher says that the internationally-acclaimed Iranian poets Hafiz and Khayyam have left a palpable impact on Mexican literature.

The acknowledgment came in a panel discussion on the culture and literature of Mexico that was held on Saturday at the 28^th Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF).

The panel discussion was also joined by Iranian translator, Ali Akbar Falahati, Iranian poem composer, Afshin Yadollahi, and senior Iranian translator of Mexican literature, Asadollah Amraee.

The Mexican publisher said some may perceive there is no link between the two countries’ literature however the great poets have already set their imprint on the Mexican literature.

Next, Amraee said the Mexican literature has already found its way into Iran albeit novelists of the Latin American nation were more presented in the Islamic Republic than the nation’s poets.

Amraee noted that Mexican authors have penned works both in English and French.

And, Yadollahi opined that works of art would lose their true meaning in the course of translation. The composer noted however there is no option at hand but to translate as one can not afford turning a blind eye to artful images made by poets.

The 28^th Tehran International Book Fair started work in Tehran on May 6 under the banner of ‘reading as talking to the world.’

The landmark international event runs until May 16.
