Visitors urged to browse Japanese history and culture at TIBF pavilion

Director of the Japanese pavilion at the 28^th Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF) says the main agenda of the Japanese mission in the international cultural event is to present the country’s history and culture to visitors.

Zahra Yousofi Raad said the pavilion runs under the supervision of the Japanese embassy in Tehran which decides on the content of the books to be exhibited in the pavilion and directly orders them from Japan.

Up to 100 titles have been displayed in the pavilion, largely dealing with such themes as Japan’s culture and art, history and geography, origami (art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures), architecture and gastronomy, the pavilion holder told the TIBF’s press office.

Asked about the makeup of visitors to the pavilion, Yousofi Raad said university students in Japanese language and literature are a fixture in the pavilion, largely coming to buy their necessary sources.

People, Raad said, may also visit the pavilion in search of publications on manga, the Japanese genre of cartoons, comic books, and animated films that typically embodies a science-fiction or fantasy theme.

The pavilion holder said workshops on origami too were held in the Japanese pavilion, receiving a huge a welcome on the part of the visitors.

The 28^th Tehran International Book Fair started work in Tehran on May 6 under the motto of ‘reading as talking to the world.’ It runs until May 16.
