TIBF, a touring destination for Iranian households

President of the 28th Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF) says the landmark cultural rendezvous serves as a touring destination for Iranian households where they could engage in a journey from through show booths and book stands.

Sayyed Abbas Salehi made the remarks in a meeting with Polish Ambassador to Tehran, Juliusz J. Gojlo on the sidelines of the landmark cultural event.

Salehi termed the book fair a major cultural event in the Islamic Republic inspected by millions of Iranian people every year.

The book fair, he added, may also serve as a cultural bridge between Iran and the world, helping foreign missions to get acquaintance with the Iranian culture.

The TIBF chief invited Poland to the next edition of the book fair and expressed hope the two nations would build a mutual bond using the cultural occasions.

Salehi also urged top Polish authors to join the next TIBF edition “so that the memoirs of Iran-Poland historical companionship would be revived once more.”

For his part, the senior Polish diplomat thanked the TIBF chief for his invitation and described the book fair as an opportunity for identifying and building common grounds between the two nations.

Gojlo regretted that Polish people suffer a lack of sufficient knowledge about Iran, adding the vacuum had been filled by western media which, as he acknowledged too, largely present an eschewed image of Iran to their audience.

The senior diplomat expressed hope the Islamic Republic would attend Poland international book fair, adding the presence would be motivational.

“Iran’s presence would allow the Europeans to see Iran through the eyes of the Iranian people rather than through the prism of the European media,” Gojlo urged.

The 28th Tehran International Book Fair started work in Tehran on May 6 under the motto of ‘reading as talking to the world.’ It runs until May 16.
