An expert in librarianship told a panel discussion on "what a mosque librarian must know" that a curator of a mosque-based library must exercise a bearing in compliance with Islamic code of ethics "since they also bear the task of teachers" besides their professional career.

The panel was staged Monday, May 10 in in a marquee in Tehran International Book Fair allocated to showcase Iran's Publication Records.

Hafezi, a bachelor in librarianship, opened his remarks by touching on a primary task of a librarian, namely knowledge about resources, collecting them and systematizing them. "To this end, a librarian must have a precise knowledge about different publications," he said adding that special index cards at the back of a book can be used to identify them.

Concerning other features of a successful librarian, Hafezi said a librarian must spend much time with his nose in a book and charm others.

Familiarity with computer applications was another feature of a slick librarian according to Hafezi.

Hafezi then noted that librarians are required to be conscious about latest publications, adding that a reliable source of such information was the websites of National Library and House of Book as well as an updated inventory of publications released annually by the House under the title of 'publication record'

Hafezi also urged the librarians to encourage potential users in their districts to enroll through offering whatever publications which cater to their needs and requirements, adding that by keeping abreast of developments in society and world, a librarian can get well informed about such needs and requirements.

Panel of book review, according to Hafezi, was a major initiative to encourage a target audience.

The expert called libraries an arm of acculturation at hand for social planners and invaluable national assets which large sums of investment have been expended to develop them. "A librarian will fail to fulfill his or her responsibilities unless he or she makes the assets available to the public," he reckoned.

In the meantime, Alipur invited the audience, all mosque librarians, to tell their own career experiences.
