Visitors to the 23rd Tehran International Book Fair accord a wider welcome to veteran publishers, an Executive in charge of foreign language publications' affairs said.

Publishers which have a longer record in the major cultural events are more inspected than their newcomer colleagues, said Babak Qaedi, an executive in charge of pavilions of Latin and Arab publications where business are conducted at the Iranian currency, rial.

Qaedi noted that several categories have sold best namely titles related to medical sciences, arts, architecture, as well as technical and engineering sciences.

According to Qaedi, 56 pavilions have been set up in the Latin section with a massive array of titles ranging between 110 to 115 thousand ones while Arab publishers have been accommodated in 76 pavilions with up to 45 thousand titles on shelves.

The executive noted that a majority of publishers in both Latin and Arabic sections are veteran booksellers with a long record of involvement in previous editions of the bookselling event.

In the same note, he singled out John Wily, Vija Nashr, McGrowhill, Jahan Adib, and Kowkab as longest involved publishers in Latin section. He also listed Nasif, Dar al-Fekr, and Dar al-Servaq as longest serving publishers in the Arabic section.

The executive believed that while levels of reception was in direct link with the needs and demands of visitors, a brief review of tallies might prompt one to hold that veteran publishers as well as a booth of direct foreign sales have served more visitors than other pavilions.

According to Qaedi, the 23rd edition differed from a previous edition in that, in a first, wireless internet services were available for both publishers and visitors in both Latin and Arabic sections.

The executive also noted that Latin publishers with a major involvement have come from the United States, Britain, France, the Netherlands, Indian, Italy, Spain and Japan.
