Mohsen Parviz, deputy of Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance in cultural affairs appealed to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to order payments of low interest loans to the publishing corps so as to lift the industry from existing difficulties.

Speaking to a closing ceremony of a 23rd edition of Tehran International Book Fair, attended by President Ahmadinejad as guest of honor, Mohsen Parviz also urged for paying a special attention to Iranian authors to the extent they could keep on generating cultural products in a peace of mind without least of livelihood concerns.

The closing ceremony was held Saturday morning May 15 in Imam Khomeini Mosalla (grand mosque), north of Tehran, the venue of the 23rd event with several dignitaries in attendance, including Sayyid Muhammad Husseini, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Ali Akbar Ash'ari, presidential aide in cultural affairs and curator of National Library, Ehsanolla Hojati, managing director of Iran Cultural Fairs Institute, besides the guest of honor.

A large number of domestic publishers and cultural directors joined the closing ceremony.

Parviz reminded that for a three consecutive years, domestic publishers found no loan on offer by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Culture having made do with a slew of problems.

"Domestic publishing apparatus is depleted and runs on a small total capital of 6,000b rials. The issue has brought several problems to publishers and booksellers," the bookseller event's chief director said.

A poor publishing industry might scare away potential investors affiliated to private sector, hence needing a state involvement, Mohsen Parviz argued, urging the President to order a special attention to paper production factories so as to alleviate market woes by degrees.

He noted that in all systems the world over, sector of culture runs on a state sponsorship.
