Tehran book fair, largest cultural event nationwide – MP

Spokesman of the Iranian parliamentary committee on cultural affairs has described Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF) as the largest Iranian national cultural event, urging for due panning to expand and promote the event.
Behrus Jafari told the 24th TIBF news office Saturday that the book fair was a major opportunity for presenting the country's cultural achievements and the accomplishments of the publication industry in the past year. "This helps encourage competitiveness among publishers and authors," he added.

Jafari who represents Samirom constituency in the Iranian parliament spoke of several meetings in the past few weeks between members of the cultural committee and representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and the minister where they were briefed on the state of affairs in the 24th edition of the TIBF event and adopt several measures jointly with the ministerial delegation as to providing university students with better services in the 24th edition.
Asked about the likely effects of the fair on expansion of the national publication industry, Jafari said though the cultural aspect of the event was more prominent in the eyes of authorities, the business side of the issue must not be ignored.
He believed the fair has a large positive impact on domestic sales of book editions as well as interaction between domestic publishers with their colleagues abroad.
