Prof. Ulrich Marzolph: Iranian, European tales resemble one another

A prominent German scholar in literary studies holds that Iranian and European tales in large part mirror one another in the way they proceed and the content they offer.

 

Ulrich Marzolph, a senior authority in charge of World Storytelling Institute (WSI), was speaking to a panel discussion on the effect of storey telling and traditional plays of Iran and other nations on the development of life skill in children, staged on the sidelines of the 24^th edition of Tehran International Book Fair.

 

Professor Marzolph said Iran and Europe enjoy a closely-bonded culture, adding that Iranian tales depict life as a battle between the virtues and the vices, according to the book fair's press office.

 

Next, Nahid Mahdavi Asl, an Iranian author and literary researcher, told the panel discussion that the Iranian culture was abound with advices. She regretted that traditional Iranian plays were going to be laid forgotten unlike the positive role they could play in nurture of children.

 

The researcher said major lessons of life could be given to children through storey telling and that traditional anecdotage can help us teach the posterity to safeguard the legacy of social norms.

 

The panel discussion was served in the meantime by several traditional stories and plays, performed by a group of Iranian storey tellers.
