Representative of a renowned Lebanese publication expressed hope Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF) would turn into a large cultural congress for any book readers or publication corps.
Muhammad Baqer Borhani, who was representing "al-Mo'arekh al-Arabi" (Arab historian) publication in the 24th edition of the book fair was speaking to Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) Friday on the sidelines of the landmark cultural event.
The Lebanese personality noted that the 24th TIBF event was staged peacefully and run smoothly while many Arab states bordering the Persian Gulf scarped plans to stage their annual book fairs due to "fear of their unstable political situation" and "fear of publication."
In another regard, Mr. Borhani said the titles on show in the "al-Mo'arekh al-Arabi" pavilion were still popular with Persian speaking visitors even though they were predominantly in Arabic and largely broach seminarian studies.
The Lebanese publisher regretted that the emergence of mass communication media, especially the Internet, in Arab countries had caused a public apathy for book reading unlike its significance in the progress of any nation.
Mr. Borhani called on the TIBF authorities to further supply facilities to Iranian publishers so as to help them keep their cultural activities and encourage them to offer the best of publications to Iranian readership.
The Lebanese publisher also urged the TIBF authorities to review the status of Arab and Islamic publications and book shows with a view to further enhance the services rendered to the public in the next editions of Tehran International Book Fair.
