Massive numbers of foreign language scientific titles on offer in 25th TIBF

Scientific and academic publications account for the largest percent of foreign language titles on display in the international section of the 25th edition of Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF), an executive told the press office of the landmark cultural event.

Credible and renowned foreign publishers are at hand in the ongoing cultural event, Mahmouod Amouzegar, member of board of directors in the Association of International Publishers told the press office, adding that the content of the international section was modified in favor of scientific titles in response to demands by Iranian inspectors for such themes.

Foreign publishers have kept presence in the 25th edition even though they have yet to be compensated on all their claims left from the previous edition of the book fair due to the ongoing western sanctions on the Iranian banks, the executive said, adding that the publishers are confident they will be reimbursed one way or another.

Mr. Amouzegar said the TIBF was distinct from similar events overseas in that Tehran’s landmark cultural event was mostly visited by regular consumers who inspect the fair to buy a few books while foreign book fairs are mostly visited by publishers and other book market activists who seek to inspect latest titles or conclude business contracts.

The executive expressed hope the TIBF would quit its present status as a mere bookshop and instead turn into a major ground for exchange of views or competition between domestic and foreign authors and publishers as well as massive information work on latest publications nationwide and worldwide.
