Senior translator considers status of Mexican literature in Iran

Senior Iranian translator of Mexican literature, Asadollah Amraee says Mexican novelists were introduced sooner in Iran than fellow Mexican poets, adding that earlier translations from the Mexican literature were made from secondary sources.

The senior translator was speaking in a panel discussion on the status of Mexican literature in the contemporary Iran that was held on the sidelines of the 28^th Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF) in Tehran.

Amraee noted however that in recent years, translations have been directly made from original works, adding that the preference among contemporary Iranian translators is to take up the original source.

The panel discussion was also joined by Mexican ambassador to Tehran, Ulises Canchola Gutierrez, Iranian translator, Ali Akbar Falahati, and Iranian poem composer, Afshin Yadollahi among others.

The 28^th Tehran International Book Fair started work in Tehran on May 6 under the banner of ‘reading as talking to the world.’ The landmark international event runs until May 16.
