The Mexican Ambassador to Iran, during his visit to the 35th Tehran International Book Fair, mentioned that despite the geographical distance between Iran and Mexico, the two countries share many cultural similarities.
Guillermo Puente Ordorica, the Mexican Ambassador to Iran, told the news headquarters of the 35th Tehran International Book Fair: "We have attended various places and exhibitions in search of cultural similarities with Iran, and despite the distance, we have found many cultural similarities between Iran and Mexico."
Referring to the "Visual Art" session held on May 16, 2024, at Saraye Melal in the fair, he added: "One of the cultural similarities between Iran and Mexico can be seen in the artistic works of these two countries. At the 'Visual Art' session, we discussed the impact of Mexican murals in Iran and the similarities in visual identity and painting between these two cultures."
The Mexican Ambassador emphasized that mural art started with the Mexican Revolution, which led to the creation of beautiful artworks in the 20th century. He said: "The Mexican Revolution is the first social and people's revolution in the world from which mural art emerged and then found its way to Iran."
Ordorica mentioned one of the cultural projects at the Mexican Embassy in Iran, saying: "We have currently started a puppet-making workshop as part of our ongoing cultural activities, which involves Iranian artists. In this workshop, we talk to female Iranian artists about Mexican history and traditions, and they create puppets based on their creativity and Iranian culture. Ultimately, we aim to achieve a joint production that combines Iranian craftsmanship and creativity with Mexican culture."
The Mexican Ambassador referred to the presence of his country's publishing industry at the 35th Tehran International Book Fair, noting: "Iranian youth have always had a special interest in learning the language and becoming familiar with Mexican culture. Our presence at the fair provides us with the opportunity to introduce the Spanish language and acquaint others with Mexican culture. We hope to make significant use of this opportunity."
Ordorica thanked the organizers of the Tehran International Book Fair for once again providing the opportunity for Mexico's booth to participate and wished for increased cultural interactions between countries.
The 35th Tehran International Book Fair, under the slogan "We Read, We Build," will be held from May 8 to May 18, 2024, at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla in person and on the ketab.ir platform.
