Seyyed Abbas Salehi, Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, stated:

“In our relationship with Iraq, thanks to our deep-rooted historical and cultural commonalities, we have had — and continue to have — broad opportunities for cultural diplomacy.”

According to the Public Relations Office of the 36th Tehran International Book Fair, the International Section of the fair and Iraq’s pavilion, as the Guest of Honor of this year’s event, were officially opened this morning, Wednesday, May 7, with the presence of the Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance and the Iraqi Minister of Culture and Tourism.

On the sidelines of the opening of Iraq’s pavilion, Seyyed Abbas Salehi said:
“As you mentioned, cultural diplomacy is an effective tool in the interactions between governments and nations — particularly among neighboring countries — and it is of great importance. Due to our shared ancient history and culture with Iraq, we have vast opportunities for cultural diplomacy. These opportunities help enhance and accelerate effective social relations between our nations and governments.”

He added:
“We hope that this year, with Iraq’s participation as the Guest of Honor at the Tehran Book Fair, will mark a new milestone in our cultural diplomacy. In our next meeting, we will discuss more about how we can jointly pursue a fruitful path in this field.”

Salehi further noted:
“Fortunately, we have strong cultural agreements with Iraq. During the recent visit of the Presidents of Iran and Iraq, a document was signed in this regard. These agreements pave the way for promising cultural exchanges between the people and governments of both countries.”

The 36th Tehran International Book Fair will be held from May 7 to May 17, 2025, at Imam Khomeini’s Mosalla under the slogan “Let’s Read for Iran.” In parallel with the physical exhibition, a virtual fair will also be accessible through book.icfi.ir, allowing book enthusiasts to purchase books online.
