Nasser Abu Sharif, the representative of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement in Iran, emphasized that the literature of resistance is no less powerful than the weapons of resistance. He stated that through resistance literature, the oppression in Gaza can be conveyed to the world.
According to the news headquarters of the 36th Tehran International Book Fair, the cultural panel titled "Literature, the Narrator of Resistance" was held at the "House of Literati" with the participation of Ahmad Abdulmalek, author of the book "The Sorrows of Gaza", Dr. Mostafa Faghih Esfandiari, Deputy for International Affairs at Astan Quds Razavi, and Nasser Abu Sharif.
The book "The Sorrows of Gaza" consists of short narrative pieces about Gaza in the form of flash fiction.
Abu Sharif stated: "Since October 7, 2023, we have witnessed all kinds of crimes against humanity. The best weapon to defend against the genocide in Gaza is to depict the crimes of the Zionist regime to the world. The Zionists enjoy U.S. support, and in my opinion, the U.S. Congress is not a legitimate institution under international law. In fact, America is the Dajjal, seeing the world with one eye."
He continued: "Gaza is a source of human pain and suffering. We must show the world the oppression of Gaza’s people. The world should help amplify Gaza’s voice, but it remains silent."
At the end of the session, Abu Sharif added: "The Palestinian people have endured 107 years of occupation and the crimes of the Zionist regime, starting from the time Britain occupied Palestine. Today, with the help of the media, people are turning towards the Palestinian cause, and 55% of young people in Europe and the U.S. support Palestine. We are witnessing a remarkable shift in public awareness."
Ahmad Abdulmalek said during the panel: "The book The Sorrows of Gaza is the 50th book I’ve published. The crimes of the Zionist regime against the people of Gaza since October 7, 2023, prompted me to write this book. Since we live in a fast-paced world, I chose the short story format to depict the humanitarian crimes of the occupying regime. I was inspired by writers such as Ernest Hemingway and Naguib Mahfouz in composing the book."
The 36th Tehran International Book Fair, held under the slogan "Let’s Read for Iran", began on May 6 and will continue until May 16, 2025, at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla. Alongside the in-person exhibition, the virtual version is also accessible via the portal book.icfi.ir, allowing readers to purchase books online
