For over three decades, the Tehran International Book Fair has been an annual cultural event. It has had the privilege of hosting several countries as guests of honor, including Afghanistan, Oman, Russia, Italy, Serbia, China, Qatar, and Tajikistan. Each guest country has brought its unique culture, literature, and traditions, adding diversity and richness to the book fair. They have also organized various events, such as music performances, documentary screenings, and publishing industry meetings, to introduce their activities and showcase their books.

 

Afghanistan Guest of Honor at TIBF 2014

Afghanistan made its debut as the first guest of honor in the twenty-seventh edition of the book fair. They had a 500-square-meter area of representation where they presented a variety of events and programs. These included music performances, documentary screenings, and meetings focused on the publishing industry of Afghanistan. Moreover, several Afghan publishers got the opportunity to showcase their books at the fair.

 

Oman Guest of Honor at TIBF 2015

Oman was the second guest of honor at the Tehran International Book Fair. They held over 30 meetings inside the book fair, universities, and cultural centers. Their presence was marked by the celebration of Oman Day at the Iranian Artists Forum, which included traditional music performances. The event was attended by high-ranking authorities, such as the Oman Minister of Information, at the opening ceremony. The Oman Night event was held in the Milad Tower, where visitors enjoyed more traditional music performances.

Russia Guest of Honor at TIBF 2016

In 2016, Russia was the Guest of Honor at the Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF). The Russian delegation included cultural authorities and the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation, who gave a lecture in the presence of the President of Iran. This delegation helped foster relationships between writers from Iran and Russia by holding seminars and joint events with various academic centers, and also participated in the book fair with 40 Russian writers and cultural figures. Additionally, the delegation held over 60 meetings in two salons, organized more than 15 meetings at different universities in Tehran, and presented two plays in the Russian language at the Russian Booth.

Italy Guest of Honor at TIBF 2017

Italy was the guest of honor at the 30th Tehran International Book Fair. They had a 300-square-meter stand and brought along a delegation that included authors, poets, publishers, illustrators, musicians, historians, and authorities. They presented over 400 titles in subjects such as literature, history, art, and tourism. In addition to the book fair, more than 45 meetings and forums were held in the Italian stand, and additional events were organized at universities and cultural centers in Tehran. The Italian stand also showcased selected Italian illustration works through an introduction and exhibition.

 

Serbia Guest of Honor at TIBF 2018

The 31st Tehran International Book Fair had Serbia as the guest of honor. They had a 140-square-meter stand and brought along a delegation of 30 Serbian writers, publishers, journalists, authorities, and a musical band. They hosted more than 20 meetings and forums within the book fair, and other events were organized at universities and cultural centers. The Serbian stand showcased over 300 Serbian titles.

China Guest of Honor at TIBF 2019

The 32nd edition of the Tehran International Book Fair was graced by the presence of China as the guest of honor. The Chinese delegation put up an impressive 500 square-meter stand and brought over 150 people, including authors, publishers, illustrators, and authorities. The theme of their participation was "Getting to know China" and they organized several programs to showcase the country's rich culture. One of the highlights was a captivating illustration exhibition called "Memory of Time" which narrated fascinating stories from China. The delegation's participation added a unique flavor to the book fair and provided visitors with a rare opportunity to learn and appreciate China's literary heritage.

Qatar Guest of Honor at TIBF 2022

At the 33rd Tehran International Book Fair, Qatar was the guest of honor and presented its literary offerings through a 160-square-meter stand. The stand exhibited over 350 books on various subjects, including classical and contemporary literature, children's books, religion, and tourism. The Qatar delegation showcased its literary scene by organizing a series of meetings and programs that highlighted the country's culture and traditions. This event was a great opportunity for Qatar to introduce its literary heritage to a broader audience and promote its initiatives for promoting literature and education.

Tajikistan Guest of Honor at TIBF 2023

Tajikistan was the guest of honor at the 34th Tehran International Book Fair, showcasing its rich literary and cultural heritage. The Tajikistani delegation put up an impressive 100-square-meter stand, adorned with over 300 book titles that covered a wide range of subjects. The books on display included classic and contemporary literature, children's books, religion, and tourism, providing visitors with a glimpse into the diverse literary landscape of Tajikistan. The delegation consisted of talented publishers, writers, and artists, who presented their works with great passion and enthusiasm in the national pavilion of Tajikistan. Their presence added a unique flavor to the event, making it an unforgettable experience for book lovers and literary enthusiasts alike.
